Food that makes me happy: Homemade Sushi

 I decided to try my hand at making sushi at home this week. There aren`t any sushi restaurants in Canterbury and I feel the supermarket ones taste really bad so I decided to give it a go. It`s super simple although when you buy all the ingredients together it can get a bit expensive but it`s worth it once in awhile and you have plenty left for other times.

1. The main ingredients: seaweed, bamboo rolling mat, sushi rice, wasabi paste + soy sauce, cucumber, and  smoked salmon that I forgot to make a photo of.

2. Boil the rice, let it cool off and then spread it on the rough side of the seaweed leaving a bit of space at the top. Add some wasabi paste in the middle.

3. Cut the cucumber in thin slices and add it over the wasabi paste.

4. Add the smoked salmon trimmings.

5. Roll the bamboo mat over the seaweed pressing gently so that the rice gets better stuck (I forgot to make a photo of this but if you google there are plenty of youtube tutorials of how to do it properly). Cut the roll into sizes of your own preference and serve with wasabi and soy sauce.
