Singapore Travel Photo Diary

We had a short but amazing stay in Singapore on our way back from Sydney. The flight from Sydney to London was so long that we thought as we already had to do a stopover in Singapore to make it more like a mini break. Our stay in Singapore involved a lot of dim sum meals, rooftop drinks with amazing views, and of course shopping. I wish I had more time to experience some of the other neighbourhoods as well so I`m looking forward to my next trip there :).

My 2015 London Restaurant Wish List

I wanted to try Gymkhana since it opened last year but kinda kept delaying it till it got a Michelin star and then it became increasingly difficult to get a table. Finally managed to book a table now although I had to book it 2 months in advance.

Fera at Clardige`s
Another exciting new opening that I`ve heard so much about. The lunch deal is of great value at only £30 per person.

The Palomar
I love modern Middle Eastern food and Palomar is now competing with Nopi, another favourite of mine in terms of positive reviews. Excited to try it.

The Ledbury
Definitely a bit of a splurge but this restaurant has so many great reviews that I`m keeping it in mind for a special occasion.

I must say that since I came back from Japan sushi in London just doesn`t feel the same. I`m hoping Roka is going to change my mind.

A bit of a London institution now looking forward to trying Momo especially after hearing so much about its atmosphere.

Another Japanese restaurant that has become very popular in 2014.

Randall & Aubin
My office is very close to Soho so I`m always hoping to get in at Randall & Aubin after work, however as they don`t take booking there`s always a huge queue outside. One day.

Dean Street Townhouse
Perfect in summer as it has a few tables outside.

Pond Dalston
I`ve never tried Hawaiian food so I`m really eager to try this place out.

Pitt Cue Co.
Another great restaurant with huge queues for their barbecue ribs. Yum.

After dinning at Limewood I`ve become an Angela Hartnett fan so I`m eager to try her Michelin star Italian in London.

Good drinks, good atmosphere and good food. Perfect for end of the week celebrations.

Q Grill
I love barbecue. Nuff said.

The Clove Club
Weird & wonderful. This is my healthy option on the list :).

Breakfast at the Journeyman in Melbourne

Forget about the BBQs, it`s the amazing breakfasts that shouldn`t be missed when visiting Australia. We`ve had a big, delicious breakfast almost every morning while we were there and it never felt boring and never had the same dish twice. There`s so much variety in options I really wonder how they come up with the ideas. We had a particularly good breakfast while in Melbourne at a cute cafe in the artistic Prahran, which btw I definitely recommend as a great area for finding accommodation in as it feels a bit more local than the business area. The cafe was called Journeyman and it`s a breakfast hotspot for those living in Melbourne. The produce is fresh and the menu is a mix of Moroccan and Australian.
We started off with some lovely freshly squeezed orange juice, followed by smoked tomato and chilli scrambled eggs with bread, mozzarella and basil which was delicious.

My partner had the charred greens with poached eggs and some big ass chorizo. A pretty generous plate that even the boy didn`t manage to finish it all and believe me, he tried. Beautiful flavours and cooking although if you`re not that hungry I definitely recommend sharing it between two.

I know you`re not meant to buy clothes right before you go on a trip as you don`t know how they will fit but that`s exactly what I did before leaving for Australia. I went through a bit of a "I have nothing to wear!" phase and did a massive shopping spree on Asos which resulted in a lot of summer clothes that I`ll probably won`t get to wear again till summer (and probably not even then) or till the next trip to a warmer climate.  Anyway we took these photos on the streets of Sydney and fell in love with this cute street art. I love how from afar the dog looks almost real and was almost matching with my outfit. Pure coincidence I promise.

Top Hotel Breakfasts of 2014

1. Shangri-La, Tokyo
Delicious breakfast held in a very impressive venue with views of the city. The quality was great and loved that you could try a traditional Japanese breakfast alongside the buffet.

2. Four Seasons, Sydney
Unfortunately I didn`t get to take a picture of the breakfast (I guess I was too busy eating) but it was a good quality breakfast with loads of variety and a choice of cooked dish to order alongside the buffet. Especially loved the pastries.

3. The Ritz Carlton, Singapore
Good choice of buffet although was a bit disappointed to find out there weren`t a lot of Chinese dishes options as well as fruits.

4. Ellenborough Park
The cooked breakfast was absolutely delicious, I had the eggs Benedict (twice in a row!) and the boy had the traditional full English breakfast both of which were spot on. Although not a huge variety for buffet the quality was very good.

5. Nobis Stockholm
For a boutique hotel, Nobis had a good variety of options of good quality although I would have probably have liked a few more hot dishes and the service wasn`t as great as the ones mentioned above.

Beautiful Simple Cooking at Berta Sydney

We`ve had some really amazing meals while in Australia. The focus is on seasonal, high quality ingredients and simple but delicious cooking which is pretty much my favourite type of cooking. One of the meals that really stood out for us was the dinner we had at Berta in Sydney. All the dishes were cooked perfectly and packed with flavour.
The squash salad was definitely one of my partner`s favourite of the evening. Crunchy and refreshing.

The mushroom arancini which are actually called on the menu "dumplings" for some strange reason were lovely. Both the boy and I love arancini and initially ignored them when we saw them as dumplings as we thought it might be something more Asian inspired but I`m glad we ordered them as they were delicious. Probably one of the best arancini I`ve had so far.

Unfortunately I don`t remember what fish was used for this carpaccio but it was beautiful. The only other great carpaccio I`ve had was at Zucca in London and this one was definitely up there giving them a good run for their money. It had the perfect mix of spiciness, sweetness and sourness.

Another highlight of the meal (I think you`re noticing a trend here) was the quail which was cooked beautifully with a lovely sauce. I could have this dish everyday and not get bored.
Unfortunately the dessert was a bit of a letdown. I guess after all these fantastic dishes my expectations were really high for dessert but it`s just felt a bit short as it wasn`t really anything that made it memorable. That being said I would go back to Berta any second for their amazing mains.

Floral Kimono

Looking through these photos feels crazy to think that just a few days ago I was enjoying 30 degrees weather and spending most of my day on a beautiful beach. My wardrobe in Australia consisted mainly of beach dresses, flip flops, summer kimonos and comfy shorts. Now it`s back to 2 pairs of socks and gloves. I think I`ve been suffering of a bit of post holiday depression as I`m finding it difficult to adapt again to London lifestyle and my mind keeps drifting to holiday memories. That being said, my birthday is coming up this week so I`ve decided I`m going to have a weekend long celebration that is hopefully also going to help cure my post holiday depression. I`m thinking hotel breakfast, gigs, more food, and some pampering.
